Maple Sugaring

It's that time of year when the Maple Sugar begins to flow!  A sure sign that Spring is right around the corner, one of my favorite seasons!!!  Cannot wait to see all the signs of spring, birds returning/migrating, flowers peaking their heads out of the ground....

Please join us at the Cleveland Metroparks to learn about Maple Sugaring!  We will:

Walk through time along the Sugarbush Trail to see the sap-collecting methods and syrup-making processes used by Native Americans, pioneers and modern sugar farmers. The History of Maple Sugaring hikes will lead to the Sugarhouse, where we can watch sap being boiled into delicious, 100-percent pure maple syrup.

Passover - Maltz Museum Tour/Seder Meal

God is good!  Please join us for a day filled with amazing symbolism between Judaism and Christianity.  We will begin with a Jewish Heritage tour at the Maltz Museum to learn about Passover, then tour the Synagogue (there on site), and conclude with a Seder Meal!  Praising Him for putting Stacey in our life to help organize and make this event even better than I could have thought possible!!!!


And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the passover.  Matthew 26:19

WHAT IS A SEDER MEAL?

A Passover Seder is a service help as part of the Passover Celebration.  It is observed on the first night of Passover and sometimes the second night as well.  The Seder service concludes with a dinner.  A book called the "Haggadah" is used to lead the service and means "the telling".  The Haggadah contains instructions for the Seder, blessings and the Passover story.

There are 15 parts of the ritual service and food is an important symbolic element of Passover.

11:00  AM Maltz Museum/Passover/Synagogue tour, then approximately at 12:30PM we will begin the Seder Meal

Admission is $3/child and $5/adult for the museum
Seder Meal $2-3/person

The tour will be geared towards K - 5th grade.  The tour will last approximately one hour, then we will tour the Synagogue/Temple and end with the Seder Meal.  Please bring a snack (no nuts) so the kids (and you?) will have a happy tummy while they participate/learn about the Seder Meal.  This will not be a full Seder Meal, just the elements that represent symbolism.

McKinley Day!

McKinley Day - January 26, 2013

Celebrate President William McKinley's birthday at the McKinley Presidential Library & Museum with this fun day filled with activities for the entire family!  Admission will ONLY be $5 for this special day.  All of your favorite McKinley Day activities will be back again this year, including:

 

*  An open hearth cooking demonstration (with samples!)

*  Civil War re-enactors

*  Special shows in Discover World

*  Planetarium shows at 1:00 and 2:00 PM

 

Our Museum Cafe will again serve lunch from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM.

 

A highlight of the festivities is always the moving Wreath Laying Ceremony, where local veterans and a General representing the White House lay wreaths in memory of the President.  As the strains of "Taps" echo in the cold winter air, it is a time to remember the life of Canton's favorite son, William McKinley.

Homeschool Bowling!

What a great deal!  The Fast Lane in Barberton has a homeschool bowling program on Thursdays at 2pm, ongoing.  The cost is ONLY $3 per child for two games and shoe rental.  Also, they have a big slide in the back bar area the kids can enjoy when they are done bowling.
