LIFE IN THE WILD WEST-ern RESERVE PROGRAM

Goal – To introduce students to 19th century life including chores, school, food, games and the home.
Kindergarten
through Eighth grades will have met the following Ohio Learning
Standards for Social Studies (Programs vary per trip):
· Importance of child’s role in the family (kindergarten)
· Understanding of how families lived long ago (First grade)
· People working together – jobs of long ago (Second grade)
· Local history comes alive through artifacts and documents (Third grade)
· Early development of Ohio (Fourth grade)
· Early inhabitants (Fifth grade)
· Role of consumers (the canal) (Sixth grade)
· How ideas and events from the past have shaped the world today (Seventh grade)
· Historic events are shaped by geographic, social, cultural, economic and political factors (Eighth grade)
School, Chores and Play
-Students will be introduced to food staples of the early to mid 1800s.
-Students will learn what it was like doing chores
-Experience an actual chore of butter churning
-Learn what students in the 1800s were being taught in school, the tools they used and how they were expected to behave
-Learn how people dressed
